If you believe in God, what role does He play in your decisions? We have no guarantee how long we have on Earth. We are vulnerable whereas God is everlasting. We live in ignorance (not knowing what the future holds). Instead of being humbled by these facts we boast in our belief that we control our lives. We have a tendency to separate sacred vs secular.
This passage is not anti-planning or anti-business. It's about having a profound appreciation of our dependence on God for every second of our lives. Qualify our plans/hopes in God's will. Have our priorities in order (trust in God first). Consider the opportunities we have to share the Good News. If you live to depend on God, you'll live more wisely. Knowing each day is a gift from God, we should strive to do His will.
